Role Overview
As a Salem Police Officer, you will patrol assigned areas, enforce laws and ordinances, investigate complaints, examine crime and accident scenes, and preserve evidence. Responsibilities include engaging with the public, participating in community meetings, and educating the community on safety measures.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and a minimum of a Basic Police Certification by the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) or equivalent out-of-state certification.
Current or recent (within 12 months) employment as a Police Officer with at least three years of full-time experience. Jail and most federal law enforcement experience are not considered for the three-year minimum.
Applicants with current certification do not need to take the NTN Frontline National Test or ORPAT.
Valid Oregon Class C driver's license (or equivalent) and a driving record meeting city standards.
Ability to work various shifts, including holidays and weekends.
Must be at least 21 years old at the time of hire.
Must be a U.S. citizen or able to become one within 18 months of hire.
Must pass physical, vision, hearing, psychological, and drug tests, and a comprehensive background check.
