Job Description

Promet is looking for a US based ONLY contract Accessibility Developer to work with its established team of Drupal professionals on a contract basis, remotely. The Accessibility Developer ensures digital experiences meet accessibility standards through testing, remediation, and collaboration, with expertise in front-end development, Drupal, and WCAG compliance. The rate range for this position is $40-72/hr and the contract is up to 20 hours a week. Given that this is a contract position, no benefits will be provided.

Candidates MUST be able to pass a background check with fingerprinting and DOI clearance and obtain their PIV card for this project.

Responsibilities

• Accessibility Testing: Conduct manual and automated accessibility audits using tools like Axe, WAVE, Lighthouse, and screen readers (NVDA, JAWS). Document issues and provide actionable remediation recommendations.
• Remediation: Collaborate with designers and developers to address accessibility issues in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Drupal, ensuring WCAG 2.1 AA compliance.
• Consultation: Guide teams on accessibility best practices throughout the development lifecycle. Work with project managers and QA teams to prioritize accessibility fixes.
• Documentation: Maintain detailed records of findings and produce compliance reports, including VPATs.
• Training and Advocacy: Educate teams on accessibility standards and advocate for inclusive web development practices.

Qualifications

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in front-end technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript). Experience with Drupal and accessibility tools (Axe, WAVE, Lighthouse, NVDA, JAWS, or VoiceOver).
• Accessibility Standards: Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA, Section 508, and VPAT creation.
• Problem Solving: Ability to address complex accessibility challenges and integrate solutions collaboratively.
• Soft Skills: Strong organizational and communication skills. Self-motivated and effective in remote work.
• Compliance: US-based, able to pass a background check, including fingerprinting and obtaining DOI clearance with a PIV card.
