Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:   The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision-makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 275 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.   The Global Health Policy Center's goal is to generate independent, forward-thinking and multifaceted analyses that reach a bipartisan audience and shape U.S. policy approaches on global health. We do this by undertaking policy-relevant research and bringing together diverse stakeholders—U.S. policy makers from across the aisle, global health experts, and global health and foreign policy practitioners—to discuss critical issues and develop recommendations regarding U.S. global health leadership, policies, and programs. To do this, we capitalize on our expertise in health security, infectious disease, and women’s and family health, as well as the expertise of the broader CSIS expert community on regional politics, national security, and development challenges, to examine the geopolitical issues affecting current and future global health activities.   The hired candidate will be paid hourly, commensurate with experience ($18.00/hour for current undergraduate hires, $19.00/hour for hires with a bachelor’s degree, and $20.00/hour for hires with a master’s degree).   ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following: • Provide regular research to support preparation for meetings, events, publications, and research trips. • Provide logistical support to ensure that Global Health Policy Center private and public events run smoothly by: creating meeting materials, assisting with room setup and guest registration, taking notes during the event, and other event related logistics. • Attend relevant global health events in Washington, D.C. and provide a summary to Global Health Policy Center staff. • Consult a wide variety of news services and peer reviewed journals and prepare memos to brief Global Health Policy Center staff. • Support the production of social media and other multimedia content. • Other duties as assigned.   KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:   • Demonstrated interest or academic background in global health, health security, public health, or related field. • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Willingness to learn and take on a broad range of tasks. • Ability to work independently and in a team environment. • Proficiency with entire Microsoft Office Suite. • Must be able to be on-site in Washington, D.C. • Must be able available 28-35 hours per week. • Must be at least a current or rising undergraduate junior.   PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS:   The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee working in an office environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.   Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or protected veteran status.     Equal Opportunity Employer.   HOW TO APPLY:   To apply, interested applicants should submit a résumé and cover letter (which includes the number of hours they are available to work per week).   To submit an application for this position, click the “Apply” button below, and you will be redirected to our secure recruitment portal.
