Job Description

YWCA Cass Clay is seeking a full-time Housing Advocate to provide support, advocacy, and housing navigation under the Joint Transitional Housing and Permanent Housing – Rapid Rehousing project. The Housing Advocate will assist domestic violence survivors with moving from homelessness into housing stabilization while meeting grant requirements as outlined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and YWCA Cass Clay.

Job Duties:

Advocacy

  • Participate in the coordinated entry process to identify participants for the programs.
  • Complete Orientation, Move-In, and Move-Out of participants.
  • Assess, arrange, coordinate, and monitor the delivery of individualized services that meet the needs of program participants.
  • Create client centered service plans with participants.
  • Provide ongoing case management and supportive services that increase housing stability.
  • Assist in connecting participants with mainstream and other homeless resources, including obtaining eligible benefits.
  • Utilize creative engagement strategies to establish working relationships with participants.
  • Establish relationships with local housing programs, housing authorities, and landlords.
  • Ensure participant files are in compliance with YWCA and other funding requirements.
  • Maintain updated records of participants and applicants.
  • Transport clients as necessary
  • Grant Monitoring/Implementation
  • Assist with preparing data and reports to funders.
  • Meet program objectives outlined by local, state, and federal funders.
  • Understand allowable grant expenses and ensure documentation for grant expenditures complies.
  • Stay informed on grant requirements related to service delivery, documentation, and other compliance related topics.
  • Input required YWCA and funder data into electronic database.

Other Duties

  • Represent YWCA at community events, committees, and meetings.
  • Accept and organize furniture and other agency donations.
  • Attend necessary trainings and meetings.
  • Prompt and reliable attendance required.
  • Participate in OnCall rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services related field (Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Criminal Justice etc).
  • Must have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Understanding of working with individuals and families experiencing homelessness, physical and mental health conditions, addiction, domestic violence, and poverty.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification is recommended.
  • Knowledge in case management, including but not limited to, motivational interviewing, harm reduction, financial literacy, and trauma informed care.
  • Must have valid driver's license with proof of insurance and be able to travel off-site as needed.
  • Meets all background check requirements.

Requirements:

These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this position. While performing the responsibilities for this position, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, push, carry and drive frequently. The employee will also be required to twist at waist, squat, kneel, stoop, crouch and reach overhead occasionally. Standing in place and sitting at desk for prolonged periods of time are performed occasionally. Repetitive keying, data entry, wrist motion, and reaching above shoulders are performed frequently. Lifting up to 40 lbs. from shoulder to overhead is occasional, carrying and pulling up to 75 lbs. is performed frequently and pushing up to 75 lbs. is performed frequently.
